I am very much excited and anticipating the new (and final) episode of the Star Wars saga, due in May of 2005. With the advent of the internet, I was able to follow closely the making of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I'm a huge movie geek and I loved reading about the production design, the visual effects, the digital photography and more.
But after seeing Clones in May of 2002, I thought maybe I was following things too closely. I knew too many plot secrets, too many storyline developments, I knew what too many of the new spaceships would look like and what too many of the new worlds were going to be. So, a decision was made: Episode will be a spoiler-free zone for me. I think, in the last few years, I've known too much about most of the films I was seeing and I realized that it was taking away from the sense of surprise and wonder that I was supposed to be experiencing.
So, for another year-and-three-quarters I need to be strong-willed and avoid theforce.net and aint-it-cool and their exotic, spoiler-filled tales of wonder from the set of Episode III.
What's your take? Can you remain spoiler-free until May of 2005? It's tough, especially when reports like this from Dark Horizons slip through my radar:
It's reported that around 11 more days are to be done before principal photography is a wrap. Darth Vader has been filmed I think. I say 'I think' because it is speculation. It is referred to in the online diary as "an unmistakable and iconic dark form". Apparently, the crew applauded when the scene was done. "THE" fight spans several locations in the film, this has been said many times over.See, it's little tidbits like that that work me into a lather. Just think... in an editing suite in Australia, George Lucas is already going over footage from the final scenes where Anakin Skywalker ceases to be and is replaced by Darth Vader. Oh man!On Monday, Ewan McGregor asked those who weren't necessary for one particular shot (the final moments of Anakin's and Obi-Wan's relationship) to not be in his view for concentration purposes. A black curtain was erected between the stage and the screens where everybody watches the scene as it plays out. There is a featured picture of the set and I'm not sure 100% but I think it's a volcano terrain type of set-piece.
I am with you dude... I felt the same exact way for both 1 and 2. I mean imagine seeing the pod race in the film without knowing what it was!!!! After watching it over and over in the trailers ... it became "old hat"... and imagine never seeing the clones and jango and the huge battle. So for Episode 3 I am SPOILER FREE. I have seen a few photos of grevious and a few production shots from Star Wars Insider but THAT IS IT MAN! I want my final Star Wars theater experience to be GREAT... and I feel it will. 75 days to go, and with the new trailer coming this week it will be tough but I CAN DO IT!
