New Items from Macromedia.com
There have been several new items on Macromedia's DevNet recently, including:
- An updated version of their Flash Detection Kit which combines some software and some tiny SWF files to determine the status of the flash player on a given user's machine and, most importantly, gives you options on how to react to that information. You can download the kit here. They've also published this nice article from Fred Sharples which gives an overview of the kit and some examples of its implementation.
- This white paper (pdf, 715k) by Michael Williams details proper naming standards and variable usage for Flash MX. This is a useful article, which really speaks to the importance of naming standards. I have to chime in here and say that I agree and can't stress that enough, especially when working on flash projects in a team environment. Using a standard set of naming conventions for everything, from filenames and layer names, to variables and movieclip names will make your life so much better.
- Finally, there's another excerpt from Colin Moock's second edition of ActionScript for Flash MX: The Definitive Guide which, by the way, you can buy from Amazon right here.
- Also, did you know Moock blogs??
