A few years ago, when Flash was the new kid on the block, a lot of folks working in the realm of multimedia had discussions with their peers about "what exactly is Flash?"
Quite often these discussions would center around the comparisons between Director and Flash and you would hear comments along the lines of "Flash has a Library. It's kind of like the Cast in Director" or "Flash uses ActionScript. That's sort of like Behaviors in Director."
Well, in the years since, Flash has really moved to the forefront in most people's minds and some might think that Director has fallen by the wayside. But, no, Director is alive and well and happily living in the MX world.
However, I was amused the other day when watching one of Macromedia's Breeze presentations about creating dynamically linked cast members. You see, now the language has completely been reversed and I get the sense that Macromedia is making the effort to reintroduce its customers to the Director product.
Throughout the presentation there were lines like this "Go to the Cast Window, that's sort of like the Library in Flash" and "We are going to attach a behavior to this object. Behaviors are like ActionScript in Flash."
For some reason I find this all really hilarious.
