Well, truth-be-told, it isn't exactly free. But if you shell over $1295 for Electric Image Universe you will also recieve a shiny new Apple iBook.
That's really a sweet deal. Electric Image is a pro-level 3d animation tool used in the making of such films as Star Wars episodes I and II, Titan A.E., xXx and more. And, in addition to the iBook, they will also include the 3d Toolkit from DVGarage.
News like this I think always fits best under the "It's a great time to be alive" category. I mean, think about it. Here, for under $1500, you can purchase a world class animation package, world class training and a great laptop. The training that DVGarage produces really captures and distills the information needed to work in high-end production facilities and makes it available to everyone.
I first encounterd Alex Lindsay, the founder of DVGarage, when he spoke at After Effects West a few years back. DVGarage was in its infancy then and I immediately became hooked on the tutorials and resources there. The DVGarage forums are also a great area to share ideas and get feedback on your projects.
