One of the many by-products in this, the age of digital photography is the huge leap in the sheer number of photographs taken. I know that when I got my digital camera I started using so much more than I ever did back in the film world, just shooting, shooting shooting all the time never having to worry about film supply, processing, printing and all the inherit costs. (Having a newborn baby at about the same time might have something to do with this surge in photo output)
This freedom also inspired me to experiment more with my photography; to just shoot and experiment and have fun. I didn't have to worry about running out of film or wasting frames.
Well, now I've got several years of digital images stockpiled on my hard drives and a few assorted CDs and I'm in search of software that will help me manage all this data. The software that shipped with my Canon is fine for pulling images from the camera and has some simple organizational tools, but is not nearly robust enough. I've been looking at Adobe's Photoshop Album which seems like a nice tool for archive and digital management.
What are your thoughts? Can you suggest a reasonably priced software package that will manage CD archive, provide keyword searching, batch processing, etc.?
The Adobe PS Album looks like it has great ambitions, but after using the free version, it's not quite up to par for what I'm looking for. Maybe in a few years it will be a nice app.
I'm in the same boat as you, a windows user with a lot of photos I want to catigoraze and manage with ease and lots of options. After watching the Apple keynote yesterday I want to buy a mac just got iPhoto. But not yet.
Any thoughts about http://www.iview-multimedia.com
iViewMedia 1.3 for Windows is ok and it looks like iViewMedia Pro 2.0 has similar features as Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0, but I think Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 is easier to use.
What I really want is an app that will manage my file directories in the same manner as iTunes for Windows does. I think I will have to wait this one out. Though I am really looking forward to cataloging and organizing my 2+ years worth of digital photos.
No doubt. I also really need an app that will help out with CD archiving. Right now, I'm pretty much doing that manually and I know that I'm not being very efficient about it. I know that certain photo directories have been burned more than once and some not at all.
I like the way that Photoshop Album shows thumbnails for images stored on CD, that seems like it would make browsing archived images easier.
