I just signed up for the new Google Analytics application. I spent few minutes last night adding the three or four lines of code to my site that allows Google to start gathering stats info for me.
I've never really paid too much attention to my personal webstats, but lately I've been thinking that it might be nice to see some data on who is coming to my site and in particular to my Lightbox photoblog. My hosting provider (Dreamhost) does provide access to tons of stats and log file data, but it's pretty raw and a tad cumbersome to get simple high level overviews. So, I'll try out Google Analytics for a while and see what happens.
On a side note, it's always interesting to see what new playground that Google is jumping into apparently every week. In the last few weeks there have been several new stats packages announced, including Mint and Measure Map. Measure Map was talked up quite a bit at Macromedia's recent MAX conference since it makes extensive use of Flash platform technology.
I didn't know Google offered that. I use both Extreme Tracking and Site Meter. It is amazing what search strings have brought people to my site.
Is the Google version invisible? I might have to try it!
It's invisible in the sense that there is no tag or little gif image that you place on each page to gather stats. But you do place a few lines of code on every page you want to track.
I'm just really exploring my options at this point. I haven't really dug into my google stats yet enough to know how well it works.
