Well, barely a week has gone by since I've gotten my shiny new fast intel iMac and Apple has already rolled out shinier, faster and bigger iMacs. Wow, 24" display on an iMac? I remember the first time I saw the 20" display on a 2nd generation iMac, amazing.
But, alas, I must try to get this out of my mind and just focus on how glad I am to have a new, fast, 2 gig machine at home.
In other news, I did install Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP Home Edition last night and the process was simple. It took a while (about 90 minutes) but overall it was all pretty straight forward with no big hiccups. At the end of the process, I had a new copy of WinXP running on my Intel Mac, which is in itself a bit of a mind job. I installed Photoshop CS2 on the WinXP VM (virtual machine) and it runs great. It boots really fast, faster than my old machine did into CS2. I ran some simple radial blur filter tests and it performed very well for me. Since 99% of the time I'm working on screen resolution images for video or web and rarely cranking through 300dpi CMYK images for print, any latency of this solution is not an issue.
Parallels is really nice so far. It supports folder sharing between the host OS and the guest OS. As well as sharing of objects or text on the clipboard. It also runs really well in full screen mode where you don't even realize that your Win XP is running virtually on a Mac.
Apple has a 14 day return policy...I would take advantage of this or ask for a discount...?
