Steve Wolkoff, the product manager for Flash Media Server at Adobe, has an open thread on his blog asking folks to add their wish list items for the next generation of FMS, version 3.
At work, we're currently in the process of rolling out FMS as our platform of choice for on-demand video as well as interactive applications. It's still pretty new for us and we're at the low end of learning curve (more on that in a bit) so I couldn't add too much to the thread on Steve's blog. Most of the comments so far are pretty techinical in nature and touch on a lot of requests for additional codec support as well as supporting AS3 on the server side and the inclusion of HD video support.
I'm glad to see this thread and I'm gathering that others are as well as it seems to indicate Adobe's continued support for FMS as a viable platform. I wasn't aware that was in doubt, I mean, if you take a look at everything from YouTube to Google Video, you see flash video as the foundation. But there is a curious lack of training opportunities out there for developers and at the recent MAX conference there was a shortage of sessions and events around FMS. (maybe 3 or 4 at the most according to comments here)
Well, apparently, Adobe has heard these comments and plans to address them shortly with the addition of new content in their FMS Dev Center and a pledge to make it a more vibrant community area.
As far as FMS training is concerned, I posted earlier about my frustration at the lack of available training and how I couldn't find a training vendor with enough client interest to put a class on their schedule. Well, the New Toronto Group does have the 3-day Adobe certified class on their schedule for late November. In fact, my employer has decided to send me and I can't wait. From the looks of their curriculum it's a great class. If you're interested, you can sign up here.
