Eastern Air

A classic workhorse, the DC-3, hangs over Gallery 102 at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington.

A first today for Lightbox, this is the first vertical image I've posted after 138 horizontal images.

While at the Smithsonian for a few hours last week, I noticed that a lot of construction was going on on the floor right below these planes. Turns out a new exhibit, America By Air, is under way and scheduled to be open in 2007.

I really like the colors in the underside of the wing. Cool shot.
