January 31, 2006 | The AV Club is the arts and pop culture review portion of the Onion that's not fictionalized satire. (link) (#)
January 31, 2006 | The Oscar's are like my Superbowl. It's really my favorite night of TV. Since we've had kids I don't get out to as many movies as I used to. We did just see Walk the Line recently and it was amazing, but apparently not enough to warrant a best picture nom. (link) (#)
January 27, 2006 | This is pretty wild looking. A researcher at Stanford Univeristy has created a digital camera that also records information about the depth, or distance, of objects in the image. This allows him to selectively refocus the image after-the-fact. (link) (#)
January 27, 2006 | I've heard of the ten-second-tidy and minute rice, but this is new. A video filmmaker and blogger has recut the Matrix down to five minutes in an attempt to simplify the film to its major plot points. The link to the video is way down at the bottom of his page. January 26, 2006 | Filmmaker Magazine (with a relaunched website and blog, btw) lists 20 movie sountracks you can't live without. I'm a bit of a soundtrack geek, so I need to check out the ones on this list that I've not heard before. Thomas Newman is on the list for American Beauty and, as I've been telling people lately, he's my new Danny Elfman. (link) (#)
January 24, 2006 | Computer pioneer Alvy Ray Smith shows off his collection of founding documents from Pixar Animation Studios as well as Steve Jobs' check for $5 million. (link) (#)

January 24, 2006 | Steve Jobs certainly is poised to step into a much larger arena, but I'm still not sure what I feel about Pixar being sold to Disney. (link) (#)
January 19, 2006 | TurnHere.com is striving to crate a catalog of independently produced short films about American neighborhoods and they encourage filmmakers to submit their work. Nice use of Flash, Flash video and Yahoo Maps API. (link) (#)
January 19, 2006 | Jonathan Demme has made a Neil Young concert film and it was shot at the historic Ryman Auditorium right here in Nashville. (link) (#)
January 19, 2006 | Amazing results, and a bit creepy too, of this camera made from a viewcamera bellows and an old flatbed scanner. Be sure to visit the animation gallery for more crazines. (link) (#)
January 19, 2006 | You can use this to record interviews made via VoIP tools like Skype and others, as well as using it as a VoIP answering machine. (link) (#)
January 17, 2006 | I can't wait to get my hands on this, especially Premiere Pro 2 and After Effects 7. Here's a look at what's new in AE7. (link) (#)
January 13, 2006 | This is a cool little bit of javascript to display full size images over the top of thumbnails, but on the same page rather than popping a new window or changing to a different URL. (link) (#)
January 13, 2006 | This is a great little tool that has been added to NPR.org that lets you search for local NPR affiliates and find information about their coverage area and signal strength. Nice use of the Google API. I'm a huge NPR fan and this tool could also be useful when traveling to find local stations. On a side note, I have to put a plug in for NPR.org. This site (redesigned a few years ago by Adaptive Path) is so well thought out and executed. It's really rich with information and their archive section is great and easy to use. Bravo. (link) (#)
January 12, 2006 | Can't wait for these. All the UI's looks like they've been updated and tweaked slightly. I've been quite impressed with Premiere Pro 1.5 lately and it looks as those Adobe is continuing the quest to mimic functionality of Final Cut Pro, including the multicam editing feature. Even though they don't show a screenshot here, I did see a sneak of After Effects 7 at the recent MAX conference and the new UI looks amazing. That and the new curve editor for AE7 will make the upgrade worth the price. (link) (#)
January 10, 2006 | Great work, either motivating for demotivating depending on how you look at it. (plus, there's a blog for FF Seattle, too) Grant Skinner's Gallery Incomplet is killer. (link) (#)
January 9, 2006 | Hoop Dreams! In other news, did you know that the Library of Congress has Librarians of Congress? Seems obvious, but I never thought about it until today. (link) (#)
January 9, 2006 | Things are getting interesting. I can't wait to see what Apple may announce tomorrow at MacWorld. (link) (#)
January 6, 2006 | Hmmm. Not sure what I think about this. My initial gut reaction is "nooooooooo!" but surely Steve Jobs has a plan. You think. (link) (#)
January 5, 2006 | Great primer on this extremely important but often skipped over topic. Essentional to understand this when you start loading SWFs into other SWFs, especially if those SWFs are doing a data calls and so forth. (link) (#)
January 5, 2006 | A new cable offering, based here in Nashville, to debut. Too bad I don't have digital cable. (link) (#)
January 5, 2006 | Cool little Flash app that shows the current hours and seconds by pulling corresponding numeric images from Flickr. (link) (#)
January 5, 2006 | Mathew Modine has published a book of photography and a diary that he kept while shooting Full Metal Jacket 20 years ago. (link) (#)
January 5, 2006 | Even though I knew that Shore had left the picture late in the game due to "creative" differences with Peter Jackson and was replaced by James Newton Howard, I was still surprised to see Shore have a cameo as the orchestra conductor during the scenes in the New York theater late in the film. In other news, Kong still is performing below expecations, and has been beaten by Narnia lately. (link) (#)
January 5, 2006 | Find out what, if any, events took place on today's date inside the walls of Apple. (link) (#)
